Ahoy there, welcome back to the Big B weekend update. Before we delve into this week’s comic matters, we’re just reminding you that this upcoming Monday, the 24th of May, Big B will be closed. So stop on by this weekend to pick up your reading material!
Kicking things off from Marvel is the debut of the new Avengers title by Brian Bendis and John Romita JR. An all-star cast of Wolverine, Thor, Captain America, Iron and Spider-Man combined with snappy writing by Bendis should make this a definite pick up for any Marvel fan and a good jumping on point for the heroic age. Even Deadpool is getting into the heroic age spirit this week, well, not really but this week’s issue was as fantastic as usual from Daniel Way. Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man gives a sort of reboot to the character as he continues to maybe learn from his mistakes in the past and turns over a new leaf. Beyond the heroic age, the X-Men are in the middle of the second coming event with X-Factor and X-Men Legacy. Oh and don’t forget about the latest Dark Tower series!
DC had a slightly lowkey week but still had some great reads with War of the Supermen, an all new Legion of Super-Heroes, Batman Streets of Gotham and Brightest Day.
Trade readers had a great week as well. Best trade of the week? Scalped Vol 6 The Gnawing. If you aren’t reading Jason Aaron’s crime drama on an Indian reserve, you are missing some of the strongest writing in years. Ex Machina is one of those series by Brian K Vaughan that works on so many levels, so we would be remiss in not mentioning the latest hardcover collection of this political super-hero series which contains the 5th and 6th trade paperbacks.
Well, that’s all the time we have this week for the Big B update. This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that “when it rains, it pours, so stay inside and read some comics you bought from Big B”
