Comics for Grades
At Big B we believe strongly in supporting literacy and, as we have done in the past, we are running our comics for ‘A’s report card program here at the store to reward all the budding literary minds here in Hamilton, Barrie, Niagara Falls and beyond!
Here’s what you need to know:
- Come into Big B and we will give you one FREE comic for every subject you have earned an A, A-, or A+ on your report card
- The program runs from now until March 31st
- We are honouring all report cards that show marks for the term that has just ended
- Any school board and any educational institution will work
- Free comics are selected from our (normally $1.99) bargain bins, there are literally tens of thousands of comics to choose from
That’s it. No catch. No Gimmick. If you have excelled in school this year, we want to reward you with more reading material to keep you going until the warm weather comes. So bring those report cards in now!
When you come in, just show one of our staff your report card. We will tell you how many you qualify for and where to go.
Comics for A’s began the moment kids started getting their report cards and runs until March 31st. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to start or continue your very own comic book collection.
How does this work?
Kids simply bring their report card from this semester/term into their local Big B Comics, once here our staff will show them the large selection of comics they have to choose from.
What’s the catch?
There really isn’t one! We just want to encourage kids to work hard at school, literacy and to spread the love of comics.
What grades are included?
We accept all report cards from junior kindergarten to grade 12 (even those completing a victory lap)
Do kindergarten report cards count; their report cards don’t have “grades”?
Absolutely! We don’t let a little thing like not having a letter or percentage grade stop us from giving away comics to these hardworking kids.
I don’t have any A’s on my report card, can I still get anything?
We will look at every report card and try our best to find any reason to reward a student with at least one free comic.
We also let them know that if they work hard to improve their grades next term they can get free comics in June when they go up a full grade (for example going from a C- to a B-).
Do A minuses and percentages count?
Of course! An A- is still an A and anything above 80% is considered an A
When does this offer expire?
I’m in university does it still count for me?
No, sadly our offer is only until the end of high school.
What’s the maximum number of free comics a child can get?
That really depends on the report card, but generally there are 8 or 9 subjects on a report card. Because we give away a comic for every subject that a student receives an A in they are only limited by the number of subjects they have.
I’m a teacher/librarian, how I can best spread the word?
You can download one of our region specific packages that includes a sign and flyers that you can print and give away, our FAQ and an introduction that breaks it all down.
How could a child that is home schooled participate?
By coming into Big B with one of his/her teachers who can vouch for their performance
