One more week to go!
Posted 12/19/2009

One more week to go before the big day, guys! Take advantage of our extended holiday shopping hours and get it all done soon! Remember; weekdays are 10am-8pm and weekends are 10am-6pm. Whoops, and don't forget that next week will be the last shipment for two weeks as there will be no shipment the week after Christmas, so stop on by next Wednesday for a last minute fix. And in even more exciting news, our Boxing Week Sale is going to be kicking in the day after Christmas. That's right, Boxing Week, not day! But let's get right into this week's comics.

A fairly great week for Marvel fans this week with some excellent issues of Dark Avengers, Captain America Reborn, Thunderbolts and X-Factor. We don't wanna spoil too much for you guys, but looks like the fecal matter is hitting the fan in Reborn with Cap's return and every Marvelite should be reading this series. In Thunderbolts, the team is up against the Agents of Atlas and the team really begins to show their stuff. This title has continued to be rock solid with great writer like Warren Ellis, Andy Diggle and now Jeff Parker taking their shot at the title. This week also saw a Necrosha issue show up with X-Force and it's getting harder and harder to not think of this series as Blackest Night-Lite, but it's still a must read for Marvel fans who don't want to dip into the DC books for some dead rising.

And what did DC fans get this week? A good number of Bat-books to say the least. We got Batman, Batman Confidential, Batman Streets of Gotham and Azrael. Given the number of Bat-titles out there, the majority of them are fairly good reads as Dick settles into the mantle and most titles show him gaining confidence. Though with Batman returning to the JLA in the upcoming James Robinson arc, we'll see him getting used to being Batman among his peers. After the last issue's big reveal in Green Lantern Corps, we get an even bigger reveal this week. Green Lantern Corps continues to be one of DC's must read books even if it wasn't part of Blackest Night.

Trade fans got a nice selection of books this week to choose for their stocking stuffers. Fans of JJ Abrams can enjoy the softcover release of Fringe while Marvel fans got enough trades to keep them occupied until New Years. They got: Deadpool Vol 2 in softcover, Secret Warriors Vol 1 in soft, Punisher Max Welcome to the Bayou in soft and Punisher Dead End in hardcover. For the more snooty of you out there, Image's One Model Nation should fit the bill perfectly. For the comic art fans out there, we've got The Art of Ditko, a nice big hardcover showcasing some classic Ditko drawings.

On the toy frontier, we've gotten in more of the Santa hat doffing Yoda and Christmas themed stuff Domos. Statue wise it's been phenomenal as well. We're sure everyone could use the 1/4 scale museum quality Green Lantern statue as well as the JLA trophy room Power Ring base complete with metal replicas of every lantern spectrum rings!

Well, that's all the time we've got this week. This is the Big B crew signing off wishing you all a Merry Christmas and reminding you to enjoy some comics this holiday!

Hoo-hah, another great week.

Those days until Christmas are flying by guys and gals, we certainly hope that you've started shopping for those comic fans in your lives. While you're shopping for them, you might as well pick up a little comic reading for yourself as well. Luckily, you can make use of our extended Christmas shopping hours to help you get by. Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm and 10am to 7pm on the weekends. But let's move onto this week's books.

From the House of Marvel, some of the great reads of the week were: Invincible Iron Man, Necrosha: The Gathering, Incredible Hulk, Punisher MAX and of course; Deadpool. This week's Deadpool finishes off the cameo appearances by the X-Men and promises some webslinging action in the next issue which will result in much rejoicing by Spidey and Deadpool lovers.

This week was a great one for DC fans as not only did Blackest Night fans get a stack of reads, there were lots of great regular titles for them to pick up as well. For the Blackest Night reader, they got Adventure Comics; featuring a great Superboy-Prime story, R.E.B.E.L.S, Doom Patrol and another fantastic issue of Booster Gold. And if you're not picking up Blackest Night, there still was Action Comics and Secret Six to tide you over.

And if you don't read either? Eh, we still got you coverd with the first issue of Daytripper by Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon. Hard to describe what this book's about, but it's a great read. Walking Dead fans got another issue of Rick meeting up with another group of strangers.

Trade fans had a great week as well, they got volume 8 of Ex Machina in softcover and the return of Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man in the Red-Headed Stranger hardcover. But the big trade of the week was definitely Asterix and Obelix's Birthday!

Well, that's all the time we have this week. This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that; if Superman and Muhammad Ali ever have a rematch, bet the farm on Ali.

Hey there, welcome back to another fantastic installment of the Big B weekend update! Great reads from all the publishers this week. But before that, just to remind everyone that Big B is now holding extended holiday hours! Monday from Friday we are open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and 10:00am to 6:00 pm on the weekends. And, have you heard our radio spot on Y108? It's pretty good if you ask me! But anyways, onto the books!

From Marvel, we got a double dose of the annuals as Dark Avengers and X-Force celebrate their anniversaries. I don’t know actually whether or not this month is their birthdays but it sounds good anyways. The Dark Avengers annual was a great read as we finally get to see what the new Captain Marvel was up to while the Deadpool back up in the X-Force annual was well worth the price of admission. Other great reads from Marvel this week include the Marvels Project, Siege The Cabal, Thor and Ultimate Spider-Man.

DC had more Blackest Night on it’s plate as it served up the first issues of Blackest Night Flash and Blackest Night Wonder Woman. Another great read by the distinguished competition was Superman World of New Krypton as Superman is left to solve a murder case with Adam Strange making an appearance.

Even if you aren’t DC or Marvel fans, you still got some great reads in the form of Robert Kirkman’s Haunt, Warren Ellis’ Supergod and more.

Toy-wise? Get your Domo on as we’ve got them in giant overlord size and regular peon size in a rainbow of colors. Speaking of giant overlords, you gotta check out our fine line of big ass Godzilla toys to wreak havoc on your little Domo’s with. Available in big and small! But who will save your city from Godzilla? Dan Akroyd of course! Straight from Mattel comes the Ghostbusters line of action figures. With this trifecta of Christmas awesome coming your way, you’ll have no choice but to spend your money here!

Well, that’s all the time we have this week. This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that; “When someone asks you ‘who you gonna call?’ call Big B for your Christmas shopping needs!”

Christmas is sneaking up on you, don't get ambushed by your holiday shopping list!

Welcome back to another installment of the Big B weekend update! The colorful Big B Holiday Gift Guide is now at our front counter for those of you who have no clue what to get for that comic book fan in your life! But let's take a look at some of the great comcis that came out this week already, because there's a ton of them!

Marvel had a strong week as a number of popular and well-written titles hit the stand. Invincible Iron Man kicks off the Stark Disassembled storyline with what seems to be an upcoming reconcilliation of Iron Man, Thor and Cappy in the making. Secret Warriors continues to be one of the break out titles of the year with one of the most interesting team dynamics of no-names in a while. JSM's run on Thor concludes in the Giant-Size Thor oneshot. A shame to see JSM off of the title due to not wanting to take part in the Siege event coming up in the Thor universe. Millar's Ultimate Avengers hit its fourth issue and is so action packed that it almost washes away the memories of what was Loeb's Ultimates 3 series. Some of the other great Marvel reads this week were: New Avengers, Criminal The Sinners and Halo Helljumper.

Even with all the titles put out by Marvel; DC came out on top in number of titles and greatness. Just to kick things off, Blackest Night was once again the powerhouse of the DC lineup. Blackest Night, JLA, Green Lantern and Teen Titans all tied into Blackest Night. But due to a diamond snafu, the green and red lantern rings did not come with the shipment and will be in next Wednesday. But let's not forget about some of the good DC reads such as Superman Secret Origins, Justice Society, Justice League Cry for Justice, Gotham City Sirens and Detective Comics starring Batwoman.

Even guys other than the big two brought out some good reads. Dark Horse hit us with The Goon which seems to be on a rather sporadic issue brought out a silent issue and the second part of their quarterly Creepy anthology. The first part of Image's massive crossover series; Image United brings the entire Image Universe together to deal with the new big baddies; Al Simmons! And finally, the first part of the Archie storyarc where he marries Betty hit the rack.

Trade readers got plenty of reading and gift material this week. The fantastic series Incognito by Ed Brubaker makes its debut in softcover. This years surprise hit; Chew also got a softcover release for those of you who don't want to pay insane online prices for the first issue in singles. We also have got more Deadpool than you can handle in Deadpool Classics vol 3 which includes the hilarious time travelling issue where Deadpool becomes Peter Parker. For the HC fan, we got the second volume of Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing and the third volume of the Powers Definitive collection.

Blackest Night action figures? You bet, the second line of them has landed. The figures in this set are; Indigo-1, Black Lantern Martian Manhunter, John Stewart and Kryb.

Well, that's all the time we have this week. Get that Christmas shopping done soon and do it at Big B! This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that: "Give the gift of awesome, surprise her with a copy of Deadpool Classics"
