Holiday shopping made easier at Big B

Heyo! Welcome back to the Big B weekend update as we dive into this week's books that you should be reading! But before that, just a reminder that the holidays are approaching fast and you don't want to be like a deer caught in the headlights as you struggle to get your shopping done. Take a page out of Young David's book as he relies on the BIG B HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE available in the store  to do all of his shopping. It's such an amazing gift guide that it deserves to be typed in all caps every time it's mentioned.

These past couple of week'sd have been big drains on the weekly comics budget so Marvel slowed it down a tad but still had some good reads this week. This week in Amazing Spider-Man; Electro returns to kick off the Gauntlet storyline. A good concept for the storyline but execution was kind of poor as Electro somehow becomes a massive rabble rouser who gets people to cheer for him? Worth reading if you can suspend your disbelief more than usual. Thunderbolts was another great read as the team of villains continues to fall apart with some great interaction between the members. Bendis' Dark Avengers continues to be one of the best titles to spin out of Secret Invasion as the team takes on the Molecule Man. A strong showing by Marvel this week.

DC's offerings this week were solid all around. Batman: Streets of Gotham teams up Batman with Huntress and Man-Bat to fight some invisible assassins. Nothing overarchingly huge storyline wise, but worth reading. Geoff John's really firing on all cylinders in Flash Rebirth this week as Barry Allen's world as shaken as Zoom reveals a big secret that's been haunting Barry all his life. Johns is definitely the man you call when you need a series revived. Adventure Comics and Outsiders were this week's Blackest Night tie-ins that net you the blue and violet rings repsectively.

From the guys at Image and Avatar, we're got the awesome Dr Horrible by Zack Whedon and Supergod by Warren Ellis.

Trade fans have got another fantastic week of trade reading ahead of them. Marvel came out swinging with the hardcover War of Kings series; showing that Marvel's cosmic stuff is just as good if not better than the stuff taking place on Earth. It also helps that Bendis' had two softcover releases as well, with Dark Avengers Vol 1 and New Avengers Vol 11 bringing both Avengers teams to the forefront. DC trade readers can catch up to the happenings of Batman as Battle for the Cowl saw a hardcover release.

In toyland, we've gottan a massive restock on Ugly Dolls and more for stocking stuffers.

Read this week's comics to keep the winter chills away!

Welcome back to another weekend update by the Big B crew! A fantastic selection of reads for you guys this week, so let’s dive in and see what’s worth your time and hard earned dollars this.

Marvel had an ok showing this week with a double dose of Deadpool in his self-titled book as well as an appearance in Amazing Spider-Man. The Deadpool title was the much stronger read while the Spidey-appearance was more of a cash grab for fans of Deadpool to lead into their gauntlet event. Pretty decent set up for it though. Daredevil’s new status quo continues to be explored as Matt goes even further in his role as leader of the hand. Not as strong as the Brubaker issues but a fairly good read by Diggle. Other than these books, Marvel’s other big hitters of the week were; Dark X-Men and X-Force. This week’s X-Force issue continues the Necrosha storyline which started up a week or two ago. And having read it, it’s getting harder and harder to not want to compare it directly to Blackest Night. Not necessarily a bad thing mind you, just…seems far too coincidental.

DC just had a stellar week though with blockbuster titles falling from the sky. Grant Morrion’s Batman and Robin finished its first story arc wrapping up the Red Hood storyline. It didn’t end as strongly as it started, but the past 6 issues have been must read for any Bat-fans out there. On the Blackest Night front, Green Lantern Corps had a big reveal at the end of the issue making it a must read while Rebels and Booster Gold dropped down complete with rings. That’s right, forget the content of the books, you want the rings! So if you pick up a copy of Booster Gold #26 you get the orange lantern ring and the indigo ring with the purchase of Rebels #10. Get em before they’re gone! Action Comics is still going strong even without Superman. I think that Nightwing and Flamebird could pull off their own series after the current arc ends.

Hellboy: The Wild Hunt wrapped up with its eight issue this week with another big shakeup in the Hellboy universe. Definitely a must read for fans as the reveal at the end of this issue is going to cause events to move pretty darn quickly. If you’re one of the hundreds of thousands who waited outside in line for your copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, you might as well come and get the comic series came out this week as well!

Trade fans, start your wallets! Another big week for you tradies out there. Kicking it off is Absolute Justice! This twelve issue miniseries is collected into one big omnibus versus the three hardcover/softcover  volumes that preceded it. You just can’t get tired of Alex Ross’ art, even if it is very posey and not that dynamic. Angel After the Fall vol 2 in softcover for those of you who don’t want to shell out the extra dough for the hardcovers. The Agent Orange arc in hardcover for you Blackest Night readers who are new to the series and want to catch up! The second Stand series; American Nightmares saw its hardcover release as well. All these and more! Take our word for it, you’ll find something for your shelf.

Speaking of stuff for shelves, we’ve gotten a heavy restock on Ugly Doll plush toys. These cute little buggers make perfect stocking stuffers for that special monster loving someone. We’ve also gotten in more of the small random plastic Ugly Dolls too! Don’t let your collection sit incomplete!
