Posted 11/07/2009

Welcome back, dear readers! That time of the year is creeping up again. Yes, it's time for the beloved Christmas gift shopping. Luckily, Big B has got you covered with comics, toys, books and card games to keep your loved ones enthralled. Forget a diamond necklace, your wife would love a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #129; 1st appearance of the Punisher! Once you get into the full tiring swing of shopping for your loved ones, sit back and relax with this week's comics.

Marvel had another full house of great comics for us to enjoy. Some of the great reads this week from Marvel were: Deadpool Team-Up, Captain America: Reborn, Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire, Nova, Marvelouz Land of Oz, Strange Tales, X-Men Vs Agents of Atlas, and Ultimate Spider-Man. A huge lineup of great reads that you can't go wrong with.

DC didn't have as big a lineup this week, but they still had some impressive books. Kicking things off was Doom Patrol #4! Not that Doom Patrol was necessarily a great issue, but if you purchase a copy of Doom Patrol, you get an awesome Sinestro Corps Power Ring Batman Widening Gyre, the Fables spin-off; Cinderella & Secret Six round out the rest of DC's releases for this week.

Not a huge week for trade fans, but a few softcover gems for them. Batman Battle for the Cowl Companion which features some of the leadup stories to Battle for the Cowl, Marvel Zombies 3 and finaly Superman Batman Search for Kryptonite.

Well, that's all the time we have this weekend, tune in next week for another comic filled update, This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that; "Comics make the best christmas gifts ever, trust us!"

Treat yourself to some great new comics this Halloween weekend!
Posted 10/30/2009

Hey guys, welcome back to the Big B weekend update. Make sure you stop by the store this weekend in your costume to get some treats from the Big B Crew! And even if you don't need any treats, stop in anyways because an absolute boatload of new comics came out this week!

It looks like Marvel decided that the best thing to do in a depressed economy is to release a ton of great comics to encourage you all to spend! Some of the greatest from the House of M this week include: Dark Avengers: Ares, New Avengers, Ultimate Armor Wars, Ultimaate Avengers and Incredible Hercules. Jason Aaron is definitely someone who knows how to write Wolverine as this week's Dark Reign The list: Wolverine teams up Wolvie with Fantomex and Marvel Boy as they make a return to one of Grant Morrison's creations; The World. Definitely one of the best The List titles printed so far; high praise indeed! The X-Titles also kicked off their massive crossover event Necrosha with the X Necrosha oneshot as well as a New Mutants tie-in. The crossover series will take place within the pages of X-Force, X-Men Legacy and New Mutants.

As if your wallet wasn't enough strain from all the great Marvel books, DC decides to toss a few onto your must buy list. Green Latern continues on with the Blackest Night storyline as Sinestro and Hal join up for some good old fashioned team-up action. Speaking of Blackest Night, the fourth issue hit the stands revealing the true mastermind behind the dead rising. Detective Comics continues to impress with the usual amazing art and great storytelling as we learn a bit more about the history of Batwoman. Gotham City Sirens again deserves a spot on the recognition list for its art as usual by the talented Guillem March. The Superman Secret Origins had its second issue with the Legion of Superheroes meeting our young Clark Kent for the first time ever. And finally, a new team up series ala Superman Batman dropped in the form of World's Finest; bringing back one of the original team up series by DC.

Trade fans; prepare to loose those wallets as a mountain of trades make their way home with you hopefully! Some of the great trade reads this week are: BPRD: The Black Goddess, Comic Book Biography: Barack Obama, Gilbert Shelton's Fat Freddy's Cat, New Avengers Vol 10 TP, Sandman The Dreamhunters HC, Amazing Spider-Man American Son HC and Old Man Logan in HC. That should be enough reading to keep you well stocked until the new year. American Son is definitely one of the better Amazing Spider-Man storyarcs to come out of Brand New Day and you can't go wrong with Mark Millar and Wolverine.

Well, that's all the time we have today. This is the Big B Crew signing off reminding you that: "When asked to choose between candy and comics, the correct answer is both!" Happy Halloween!

Another Marvelous Week for Comics
Posted 10/23/2009

Welcome back, true believers! It's time for the Big B weekend update! But before we dive into this week's new stuff, drop on by the bargain basement where we've added over 3 longboxes worth of comic book magazines. We've got Savage Sword of Conan, Eerie, Cracked, Mad, Epic and more, so break out those checklists and come do some bin-diving.

Marvel had a fantastic week with great books coming out the wazoo. We got Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts, Incredible Hulk, Dark Reign The List Hulk, Dark Avengers, Invincible Iron Man, Mighty Avengers and Spider-Woman. Matt Fraction's run on Iron Man continues to be one of the best runs in Iron Man history as Norman Osborn finally catches up to Stark and turns this issue into an armored up brawl. Bendis' Spider-Woman continues to make waves as one of the first motion comics to launch alongside a print title. Even though the motion comic has finished, Bendis has promised a different twist for the print version and Alex Maleev's art looks as great as ever. And finally, the Incredible Hulk continues to be pretty darn interesting as Bruce Banner is determined to train his son up for the upcoming War of the Hulks storyline. Great writing by Greg Pak makes us glad for the return of the Incredible Hulk as an alternative to Loeb's Hulk series.

After the last couple big weeks, it feels like DC took a breather to catch its breath with the release of three noteworthy titles this week, not to say that they aren't good ones though. Blackest Night Superman, Azrael and Justlice League were DC's heavy hitters this week. This week's JLA is the beginning of the run by James Robinson and Mark Bagley. Pretty interesting stuff so far with the connection between Justice League Cry for Justice which Robinson is also writing. Hopefully this title turns around the slump the JLA have been in as of late.

Archie and Veronica continue their marital bliss in Archie #602 which shows the birth of their twins! Of course, next issue is going to be Betty's turn at married life with Archie. Chew; this year's surprise hit finishes off its first storyline; Taster's Choice with a bang as a certain trusted agent decides to spring a surprise on Tony.

Trade fans had a decent week as well. Fans of classic literature and horror can sink their teeth into Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, while Alex Ross fans can check out the hardcover release of Uncle Sam. Jason Aaron's Scalped sees its fifth trade paperback release as Dash finds himself digging deeper and deeper into a twisted mess of betrayal.

Toys toys toys! This week saw the release of the first wave of Blackest Night action figures. There looks to be about 4 waves with 4 figures in each set. This wave included Black Lantern Earth 2 Superman, Alpha Lantern Bodikka, Saint Walker and Atrocitus. Don't forget to pick up your World of Warcraft Deluxe Figure Illidan Stormrage in demon form colors!

Well, that's all the time we have this week. This is the Big B Crew signing off reminding you that: "Why propose with a diamond ring when a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 will do the job just as well?"

Cold? Warm yourself with some comics!
Posted 10/17/2009

Welcome back to the weekend Big B update! Freezing cold weather got you down? Drop on by and warm yourself by the comic book hearth.

Marvel had a fairly low key lineup this week. Some of the big titles that came out were Deadpool #900, Uncanny X-Men, Punisher Max and Web of Spider-Man. Big name titles but quality wise; not too impressive. Better luck next week, Marvel

DC had a much better work overall. The Bat family had the most exposure with three titles hitting the rack; Blackest Night Batman, Batman and Batgirl. We also had some great reads through Green Lantern Corps and Secret Six. Johns and Manapul continue on with the return of Superboy as he decides to pay a visit to Red Robin. Surprisingly, the highlight of this week's Adventure Comics was the Legion backup.

Trade fans get to enjoy a number of great reads this week. Ed Brubaker's final run on Daredevil is collected into trade paperback form. One of the best Daredevil runs in Marvel history and deserves a spot on any Marvel collector's bookshelf. The beginning of the X-Men's time in San Francisco is told in the trade version of Manifest Destiny. Brian K Vaughn's excellent Runaway series saw a trade release for the Teenage Wasteland story arc in a shift away from the digest format. Fans of classic literature and Jane Austin should be sure to pick up the hardcover release of the comic treatment of Pride and Prejudice. DC fans weren't left in the cold this week though. The Justice League of America crossover with the Mile Comics characters has been collected into a hardcover. Finally...ZOMBIE ATTACK! I mean, Max Brook's Zombie Survival Guide gets its own spin-off with The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks. This trade explains the various ways different civilizations have dealt with zombie infestations over the ages.

Well, that's all the time we have this week. This is the Big B crew signing off reminding you that: "If it gets too cold out there, you can use those X-Force #1 for kindling!"
