Deadpool’s been around for a while, first as an ultra-violent, super-edgy mercenary starting in New Mutants #98, then alongside Cable in Cable and Deadpool. As of his past few re-imaginings, Deadpool has mostly been breaking the fourth wall, cracking wise, and of course still kicking butts in between all the humour.
Deadpool’s origins are all jumbled up, but what we do know is that he was originally Wade Wilson. Seriously. That’s all we know about Deadpool for sure. The most popular origin story is that he had cancer and an experimental treatment ended up giving him regenerative powers but scarring his body and face for the rest of his life, although Deadpool himself admits this origin may just be a delusion.
With Marvel NOW!, he’s been knocked back to issue #1, and this time around he is tasked to re-kill all of the zombie presidents of the United States that have been raised by a villain in order to restore America to its former supposed glory. Hired secretly by S.H.I.E.L.D. to avoid the negative publicity of someone like Captain America bashing Teddy Roosevelt over the head, his recent misadventures are as funny and entertaining as ever in this “new” bi-weekly series.
Plus, now that Disney owns both Marvel and Star Wars, maybe we’ll finally see that Deadpool and Boba Fett crossover I’ve been daydreaming about? Anyone else? No? Only me? Oh well…
