Hello again ladies and gents! It has been a little over a month since my last Marvel Now! update. We’ve had a little over 20 titles issues come out since then so we have a lot to get caught up on. Like I said before, I have committed to reading the first three issues of all the Marvel Now! titles, and some of these have already come and gone thanks to a biweekly release but there are still so many yet to come. For the titles that I have already reviewed I have included those reviews below, but if you would rather you can also read part one and part two of this series of reviews.

The whole point of this series of reviews is to see if Marvel Now! is the great jumping on point for new readers that we hope it is. I am in a really good place to judge since I had never read any Marvel titles before. My hope is that I can help any of you who may be thinking about picking up any of these titles. So lets jump right in…

A_PLUS_X_4A+X
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: January 23, 2013
Thoughts: This is a great silly title. Each issue they pick one Avenger and one X-Men character and they team-up to fight against some villain. I am not sure if they are supposed to tie together at all (I believe the robot that Black Widow and Rogue fought in issue #2 is one of the same ones that Captain America and Cable fought in #1) or if I am just reading too much into the details. Either way this is a book that first time readers shouldn’t have too much of a problem with. Although I was a little confused with some of the conversation with Kitty Pryde, that didn’t detract from the fight which is the point.
Conclusion: I am probably not going to continue following this title

Age of Ultron
#1 has a March release date

ALL_NEW_X-MEN_5All-New X-Men
Latest Issue: #6
Issued: biweekly
Next Issue: February 6, 2013
Thoughts: The premise is that Beast has traveled back in time to get the original X-Men team and brought them to knock some sense into Cyclops who is on the verge of starting a mutant civil war and/or genocide. This was one of the titles I was most worried about; I just don’t know much about the X-Men outside of the movies. I was pleasantly surprised as it wasn’t difficult to follow along at all. Of course there were some mentions of the past, but nothing that made me feel completely out of the loop. This is definitely a title that I am curious about and I will be continuing to follow.
Conclusion: I am definitely continuing with this title, I really want to see where they are going to go with this

Alpha
#1 has a February release date

AVENGERS_3Avengers
Latest Issue: #2
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: January 23, 2013
Thoughts: The first issue piqued my interest and the second takes up right where the first left off. Jumping between the present and a flashback we see Captain America and Iron Man approaching different heros, and with each one we get a glimps of what their motivation is (I find this really interesting since I don’t know most of these characters). We also get more information about the threat Earth is facing and what their motivation is. I am very curious about the next issue, so far I am feeling optimisitic about this title which surprises me considering how easy it would be for this to be a confusing story.

Avengers_Arena_1Avengers Arena
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: biweekly
Next Issue: February 13, 2013
Thoughts: Welcome to Murder World! So this title is pretty simple on the surface some of Marvel’s teenage superheros thrown into the Hunger Games (the villian actually says he got the idea from some children’s books he red). I am curious about the premise, but I do not know who a single character is which makes me very nervous. Thankfully the first issue does a pretty good job of introducing the characters, so you atleast know everyones names even if you know nothing else about them. The first three issues where enjoyable, although a little confusing for me (panels that are full of action can sometime confuse me).
Conclusion: I am going to read at least a few more issues of this title, I would really like to know more and I hope that the little things that confuse me will become more clear.

Cable_and_X-Force_1Cable and X-Force
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly from now on
Next Issue: February 13, 2013
Thoughts: Okay, so the first issue was confusing (as in sent me to Wikipedia kind of confusing), and since I don’t like me confused I didn’t particularly enjoy it. But the next two issues cleared up almost all of my questions and the ones that are left (such as who is behind this attack) aren’t supposed to have answers yet. It is exactly for titles like this that I decided to read the first three issues of every series, if I had judged based on the first issue I would have just walked away, but I am definitely interested this puzzel.
Conclusion: I am going to read at least a few mroe issues of this title, I really hope they start telling the story in a more linear line though (less flashbacks).

CAPTAIN_AMERICA_2Captain America
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2013
Thoughts: Any questions I had from the first issue were cleared up and I didn’t have any problems following the storyline. I am really interested in the two children, Ian and Jet, I am most interested to see what is going to happen with them.
Conclusion: I am probably not going to continue with this series, I didn’t personally like the turn they took in the last panel of issue #3

DEADPOOL_4Deadpool
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: January 23, 2013
Thoughts:This is 100% just a really fun and silly comic. S.H.I.E.L.D has asked Deadpool to covertly destroy all of the undead U.S. Presidents running around trying to kill everyone, and he is being advised by the ghost of Benjamin Franklin. I am not usually a fan of silly so I am still completely amazed by how much I am enjoying Deadpool.
Conclusion: I am going to continue reading this series, I find it to be really amusing. In fact it is one of my three favorite Marvel titles right now.

Fantastic_Four_2Fantastic Four
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 13, 2013
Thoughts: So my negative feelings about the first issue (mostly confusion about who all the children are) was cleared up in the first issue of FF, so I went into the next two issues feeling good. And happily that feeling continued, Fantastic Four is interesting and is not at all confusing to a first time reader. I am curious about what is going wrong with Reed, and about how hiding it from his wife will blow up in his face (a lesson all men need to learn over and over again).
Conclusion: I am going to pick up at least another couple of issues of this series and see where it goes

Fearless Defenders
#1 has a February release date

FF_1FF
Latest Issue: #2
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: January 23, 2013
Thoughts: I was really worried going into FF. The only thing I knew going in was that the title stood for “Future Foundation” and the little peak that I saw in issue #1 of Fantastic Four showed me a bunch of alien children that confused me right away. I actually enjoyed this comic a lot. There was a nice little introduction on the first page, and spaced throughout the issue were “interviews” with the children that gave them each a name and a chance to explain what FF is to them. I continue to be curious about this title, particularly about the children, Ant-Man, She-Hulk and Medusa.

Guardians of the Galaxy
#1 has a March release date

INDESTRUCTIBLE_HULK_3Indestructible Hulk
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2013
Thoughts: I am really enjoying Indestructible Hulk, the second issue being my favorite so far as I love interactions between Tony and Bruce (Tony’s pep-talk to himself at the end was awesome). I honestly don’t care to much for Hulk and his fight scenes, it is Bruce’s story line that I am really curious about, and now with the addition of four assistants with who knows what secrets and motivations I am looking forward to the next issue.
Conclusion: I am going to continue following this series

IRON_MAN_5Iron Man
Latest Issue: #5
Issued: monthly from now on
Next Issue: February 6, 2012
Thoughts: As I said before, just thinking about picking up an Iron Man issue or book was very intimidating to me because of his complicated history. Thankfully all three of these issues have been really easy to follow. Characters are clearly introduced and any past events that are mentioned are explained really well. This is perfect for a first time reader. I am really interested in the story line in Iron Man; the group called “The Circle” in issue two were really intriguing and I am hoping we see more of them. And while at least part of Iron Man’s rogues gallery shows up in issue three it wasn’t too confusing.
Conclusion: Iron Man is officially one of my three favorite Marvel titles and I will continue to read it

MORBIUS_LIVING_VAMPIRE_1Morbius
Latest Issue: #1
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2013
Thoughts: I have heard a lot of jokes and moaning over a new Morbius title, so I wasn’t expecting a lot when I picked up the first issue. I wasn’t completely thrilled with the issue as I found the narrative to be a little confusing but I do really like the art. I am curious about this character. I know Morbius is not new but he is to me.

NEW_AVENGERS_1New Avengers
Latest Issue: #2
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 6, 2013
Thoughts: Picking up anything with “Avengers” in the title makes me nervous, I am always worried I am not going to understand what is going on. I have to say the New Avengers did a pretty good job at explaining what was going on. They set the stage right away, explaining how “years ao, the most powerful men in the world voted on whether or not to run the world in secret” and how the chips landed from there. This title has piqued my interest, I enjoy Reed Richards and Tony Stark and I am curious to learn more about the Black Panther. The storyline seems like it might be focus less on physical fighting and more on problem solving and fighting between the team, and that interests me.

Nova
#1 has a February release date

RED_SHE-HULK_61Red She-Hulk
Latest Issue: #61
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 6, 2013
Thoughts: I found myself really enjoying issue #58 and I am really curious about She-Hulk. She is trying to stop the army from creating a line of super-soldiers. I still need to get my hands on the next two issues but I am optimistic since the first issue had a really good set-up. I was able to follow along quite easily and at this point would say it is good for a first time reader to jump on.

SAVAGE_WOLVERINE_1Savage Wolverine
Latest Issue: #1
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2013
Thoughts: I found this issue to be a little confusing, I don’t know where this Island is but I am not sure if I am supposed to either. I could follow the story with little confusion though. So far the storyline hasn’t really piqued my interest, but that is exactly why I am giving all the titles three issues, so they have a chance to gain my interest. All in all the title was friendly to a first time reader and would recommend it to someone looking for a Wolverine title.

Secret Avengers
#1 has a February release date

SUPERIOR_SPIDER-MAN_1Superior Spider-Man
Latest Issue: #1
Issued: biweekly
Next Issue: January 30, 2012
Thoughts: This issue was interesting. I have never red Spider-Man before, but of course I have heard of the contraversy surrounding the ending of Amazing Spider-Man so I was anxious going picking up Superior. The issue did a good job explaining what was going on and who everyone is, at this point I would say it is friendly towards new readers.

THOR_GOD_OF_THUNDER_4Thor: God of Thunder
Latest Issue: #4
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2012 (it is also the conclusion of this storyline)
Thoughts: I have been enjoying this story, the three differnent times flow really well and I enjoy the art work. I am really excited to see how it ends. This series has been really friendly to first time readers.
Conclusion: I will definitely read the last issue of this mini-series

THUNDERBOLTS_2Thunderbolts
Latest Issue: #3
Issued: biweekly
Next Issue: February 6, 2012
Thoughts: Retired General Thaddeus Ross is putting together a team and besides Deadpool (who I know very little about) I don’t know anything about these characters. That should spell disaster but I am actually enjoying this title. I find the interactions between these characters to be interesting as well as enjoying the storyline. Unfortunately Mercy hasn’t shown up again since the first issue, but I am waiting (see part 2 of this review for details about Mercy)
Conclusion: I am going to continue reading this title

UNCANNY_AVENGERS_3Uncanny Avengers
Latest Issue: #2
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: February 20, 2013
Thoughts: There are two different stories taking place in this comic. The first is with Captain America, Havok, Wolverine, etc and is about mutants joining the Avengers (with Havok leading the team). They are trying to work together to improve the image of mutants since most of the general population is terrified of them. This story line is easy to understand and I enjoy it. The second story line is with Rogue, Scarlet Witch and Red Skull (and his team of evil-doers). This one confuses me, they talk about past events a lot and definitely assume the reader has a certain amount of knowledge.

Uncanny X-Force
#1 has a January 23 release date

Uncanny X-Men
#1 has a February release date

Wolverine
#1 has a March release date

X-Men_Legacy_1X-Men Legacy
Latest Issue: #4
Issued: monthly
Next Issue: January 30, 2013
Thoughts: This comic follows David Haller, the son of Charles Xavier. He is crazy and really powerful. That is about where my understanding of what is happening ends. I don’t really like the way it jumps between what is happening in David’s head and what is happening around him. The comic also does not introduce all of the characters very well. I know that the identity of the one character is supposed to be a bit of a mystery (or at least I am assuming so from David’s monologue), but I really prefer when I know the names of the characters. Of all the Marvel Now! titles this one definitely seems the least friendly to new readers which makes me sad because the premise and David Haller are really interesting.
Conclusion: I am probably not going to continue reading this title

Young Avengers
#1 has a January 23 release date
